Match Report 22.11.15 v Everton BYFL CUP ¼ final

Brave performance from U12 in Cup Q final today v Everton (who play in D1 and are level top). 1-1 at half time and we were on top for good periods of the game. pressing and tough tackling held them back and they resorted to long shots. one of which was unfortunately fumbled into his own net by our keeper 5 mins from time. even then we pushed on and had half chances. the fact Everton celebrated so hard was a sign they were relieved to have got through the tie. well done lads. let's keep this level of desire and determination in the league.

Our goal : Emre.

Match report 15/11/15 v Moordown

Very disappointing result today against Moordown. we were better team, better players, better chances. but a couple of things let us down

things not quite falling our way for one. those passes just a tad over hit, the shot that goes just wide etc. and then the organisation on the pitch. players not holding positions they were given and players not playing to the game plan. all that couple with a lack of desire second half compared to the opposition led to our downfall.

started off very well with a nice switch play that resulted in a lovely looping shot from Jayden for 1-0. we should have had two or three more really but a goal mouth scramble led to a clearance hitting one of their players and dribbling into our net.  1-1 half time.

during half time we asked the lads to show more commitment to win the second ball and more desire to head it.

a scrappy second half, although we had plenty of chances, eventually led to a Callum goal for 2-1. with about ten minutes left we needed to keep things tight for the three points but almost immediately we got sloppy and let them score the easiest of goals for 2-2. then the lads heads dropped and they lost shape and composure and tried to force everything rather than playing with confidence. when a long range shot caught the wind and dropped over Sam's head for 2-3, the game was up and we were lucky not to let another in.

having good results and excellent performances in the last two weeks, it was very disappointing to lead twice and get nothing from the game.

need to learn to finish our many chances and keep composure at vital times.

on to the next game.

Results Update

Have not got round to writing match reports on all the games - too busy!

However, the team have improved performances massively since the last report and are currently on a four game winning streak.

They won 3-1 in the league against Ringwood with goals from Jayden, Ciaran & Callum

Then a Bmth Cup game v Rossgarth which they won 4-1. Goals from Ben (2), Tyler = one more I can 't remember right now. One of the boys will correct me!

Then we played 2 friendly games:

v Sway we won 6-1 : Goals from Callum (3), Ben , Tyler & Xander

v Corfe Mullen won 4-0 : Goals from Ben (again!), Callum, Jayden & Emre

Both the friendly games were superb performances. Keep up the good work lads!

Match Report 8/11/15 v Corfe Mullen

v Corfe Mullen (friendly)

A superb performance today resulting in a 4-0 win against a team a league above us.

a change of formation saw us start with 2-3-2-1. trying to utilise the attacking and finishing abilities of Jamie against his old team. new system worked like a treat and we were 1-0 after 7 mins from a corner, which Ben finished from close range (4 in 3 games for him!). 2-0 up after 15 mins as Emre, who should have scored a few mins earlier, buried a hard shot over the keepers head.

The opposition were playing 4 at the back and didn't show an awful lot going forward. anything they did have was quickly countered by strong and organised defending from Zack & Ciaran, helped along by Elliott in a new role at CDM. Elliott produced his best performance of the season and was strong and disciplined throughout.

At half time we reminded the lads about complacency and repeating the same again in second half. they have learnt from their mistakes earlier in the season and carried on their good work. apart from a free kick which Sam caught easily, there was little threat on our clean sheet. Corfe had a little five min spell at the start of the second half but we were soon back on top.

It took us a while to really get flowing again, despite being dominant but hard work payed off about 20 mins in when Jayden found himself strangely in the middle and slotted a shot home into the corner from the edge of the box. lovely finish and I was very pleased as we had worked for ages on improving finishing.

Our 4th goal came late in the game when Xander and Callum combined with gritty determination to not let Corfe clear the ball in their own defensive third. a lovely bit of skill and back heel from Xander set Callum up with just enough space for a looping long shot which went over the keepers head. excellent goal.

a really superb performance all round. every player working hard for each other and supporting each other. and all playing to the team 'philosophy' (if u must).😀⚽️

Match Report v Mudeford 4/10/15

Briefly

Proverbial game of two halves for U12 today. first half we played the best I've ever seen any of my teams play. incisive, aggressive, width, depth, communication. 3-1 half time. could have been more. should have been more . team talk - don't "do a Chelsea. it's only half time". second half. awful. truly awful. lost 5-3. managing to beat ourselves at the moment.

Match Report v Bmth Sports 27.09.15 BYFL Cup R1

The boys had a good warm up, unlike the opposition, who's coach didn't arrive until 10 mins before KO. And I mean the manager, not the vehicle.

A beautiful sunny afternoon to play football too & the pitch was not too bad. No dog poo anyway!

We started brightly, passing around like we know they can do. I had challenged them all to improve their game in individual ways & they seemed to relish the task.

The opposition gave us far too much space & time on the ball, which suited our passing game & we witnessed some lovely sweeping passing moves, leading to lots of first half goals.

First Jayden popped in 2 from right mid, then Xander crashed in with one from midfield. Then Elliott got a first half hat trick from centre forward. Two left foot ones & a rocket right.

Jamie had the midfield totally sewn up & with solid Zack & Tyler behind him, he spread some fantastic passes wide to Ben & Jayden/Ed.

Second half, we were pleased to have Emre back after injury & he was a bit rusty as he managed to miss three chances that would have given him a hat trick too.

Bmth Sports changed their keeper at half time & he was the difference in the second half. We took our foot off the gas a bit but without the keeper we would have got another 7 or 8. We had to settle for one more from Xander, a fab half volley that thundered into the net!

Sam, in goal, was having a good game. He didn't have much to do but kept his concentration well & did whats was needed. Unfortunately, when chasing back, Zack got a bobble or a heavy touch & put him in real trouble. Despite manic chasing back by Jamie & Elliott, their striker got a shot away & Sam could only palm it into his own net. He more than made up for it though with a super save from a header late on.

Final score 7-1. (although they reported 9-1)!

Match report v Salisbury Youth, Hants Cup 20/9/15

an early start for everyone as we travelled to Romsey for a 10am KO in our first ever game in the Hampshire Cup.

After a sneaky McD breakfast (one of the golden rules of away days!), I struggled to find the pitches and ended up on a very narrow, farm track!

The fog was very thick and when we eventually arrived at the pitches, you could barely see from one end to the other!

The boys had a good warm up and we're confident of putting up a better display than last week.

After an early flurry and shot from Callum , we went 1-0 down and then 2 and 3.  the opposition were not a better team than us, they just wanted it more.

We did score before half time with a very nicely worked goal involving Ben, Xander and then a strong, off the bar, shot from Callum which fell behind the line. 3-1

At half time, we asked more of the boys and encouraged them to play more direct through balls to Elliott up front. Pleasingly , they did just that and we had a 15 min spell where we were clearly on top. after one of those through balls, Elliott squared the ball to Jamie who finished neatly. 3-2.

Their manager was panicking now and was screaming at his players. Another ball to Elliott and he toe poked it through to Ed who managed an attempt to chip the keeper as he came out. the ball rolled agonisingly towards the goal and just and we began  to celebrate it was cleared away at the last second. how different things could have been if that had gone in.

After that, Salisbury got a second wind and made in 4-2 and then 5-2. to be honest we completely crumbled after that and the lads heads dropped. 6 and 7 quickly went in and then Zack got injured. 8 and then 9.

Final score 9-2. very flattering score line for them and u think we managed to beat ourselves for most of the game. the team need to learn to never give up and keep going right till the end.

Match Report v West Moors 06.09.15

Lucky last minute equaliser for the U12. 3-3.

Went 1-0 up in fast half with a great solo run from debutant Jamie. then debut goalie Sam made one of those howlers that only when keepers do it does it lead to a goal! so 1-1 half time. straight from the kick off, West Moors found themselves one on one with Sam and we were quickly 3-2 down! it took the lads a good while to get to grip with the energy and enthusiasm of the opposition but eventually after a nice diagonal, wide pass from Xander to Jayden ( at last boys!!), Jayden went through to score against his old team on his debut. West Moors were rattled then and we liked on the pressure despite being sloppy in the pass. we won a very late corner and after everyone went up for a last ditch attempt and after a panic few seconds, Tyler (in his words) Kung Fu'd it home. didn't play well but great fight back. point saved.

GREAT WEEKEND FOR THE SQUAD

Two games in awful conditions on Sunday.

Firstly v Milford On Sea in the BYFL.  Amazing we were 3-0 at half time, mirroring the first half performance in the reverse fixture, with goals by Marco (2) and Emre.

We only had 9 players due to holidays, so the kids had to work extremely hard for their lead. It was described to me as a 'battling performance'.

Again, mirroring the reverse fixture, Milford came out after half time & got back into the game. With 10 minutes to go the score was 3-2. Then we went a player down when Joe got mud in his eye!

The lads held on and at the final whistle we all celebrated hard at our first league win of 2015 and only our second of the season.

Then, with only a short break, we played Burton in the New Forest League. Fortunately, we had our two new players join us so we had some fresh legs.  It was a difficult fixture, the team had to battle hard again, but we played some lovely football (training ground stuff showing through). A goal in each half from Emre & Marcos saw us with the points and puts us at the top of the table with 9 & no goals conceded.

Tuesday 31st March

A crazy, super windy afternoon v Branksome in the BYFL. The team carried on their good performances from the weekend and put up a much stronger fight than in most games recently. Both teams found it difficult in the strong wind & we were 1-0 down at half time despite having our chances.

Second half, we created lots of opportunities and had a shot cleared off the line, one off the bar and their keeper saved a good one on ones as well. However, a windy punt upfield caught our defence out & it was 2-0. We had the better chances in the second half & their goal was their only shot on target. With a bit off luck & better finishing, we could - should - have had a draw or even a win.

Recent matches have shown that we can play good football, are much more aware & organised & also are starting to get to grips with the physicality too. Just a shame its too late to avoid relegation.

Great training session 11/03/15

What a fantastic training session we had last night. As I said to the team afterwards, it was the best session this calendar year..

At the start we talked briefly about what went wrong at the previous game & I identified that, unlike us, the opposition seemed to play to a team plan & each knew what the others were going to do next.

So, with that in mind we set up a 4 box practise with one team playing one way & the other team playing counter to them.  Once they had got really good at this & could keep the ball moving for ages without losing the ball, I progressed the session on by putting 2 middle players in the centre of our four boxes. I then gave the team the instruction that a pass "inside" to a central player should always be their first option. Then the game restarted. The middle players had to work very hard to be 'open ' for four corners at once & the corner players then had two options. I was very pleased with how the lads picked this up so we then introduced a defender in each corner box to make it even harder. The players responded really well to this & began to play one touch passes inside to the middle players.

After a short break & a pitch reset, we then went into a game scenario but with wide zones and end zones marked out. The instructions were clear: every move must include a pass to the wide zone and the next pass should be inside. If you win the ball back from the opposition, you should work the ball back to your end zone before trying to score. In essence - demonstrate what you just practised but in a game situation. Again, the play was very good & quick. I had two new lads in the session who will be joining next year and they fitted in really well. They both pass the ball really well & look to support other players. Neither of them is greedy on the ball.

It was very refreshing to come away from a session felling like the squad really learnt something & had progressed. Despite getting hammered almost every week on match day!

It's our first week of the New Forest League this weekend & I hope that with our new skills from this session & a bit of luck, we might be more competitive.

Futsal Excitement!

We have been playing lots of Futsal recently and I am happy to report - it's fantastic!

More than just a 5 a side, Futsal encourages fancy footwork, teamwork & quick passing.

The squad have played 6 games and won 5, scoring oodles of goals along the way and even better, every single player has been heavily involved and scored!

I encourage all young players to get involved in this format as I can already see the benefits in the 9v9 games and the kids just love it. The only complaint being it's not long enough!

Futsal forever!

cash or cheque payable to Greenfields YFC ASAP

Match info 4th jan 2015

Hi All

I hope you all had a great Christmas & a Happy New Year. I expect the break from kids football was well received (except by the kids!).

So, 2015 is upon us and I am raring to go with the team & battle our way up the league table. Hopefully, the players are all in the same mood.

The fixtures start again this weekend Home to Redhill . KO 10 am . HOME kit. Goal crew from 9am please, ref & linesman, as always required. As we have not had any training before this tricky return fixture, could I please have all players on pitch, ready to go at 0915? It would help to have the extra bit of time to remind them of how we were progressing.

Futsal – I have the fixtures now. The first 2 matches are on 18th Jan at 12.00 & 1230 at Two Riversmeet. This is after the away fixture at Milford, however I am assured that the KO for this will be 10am so we can scoot across to Christchurch straight after.  The Futsal games are only 20 mins (fast & furious) and 5 a side. So, all players will be needed as they will all get a go in those 2 games.

Please let me know availability problems for this weekend & for the Futsal ASAP.
